winter running

Hey

Now that the marathon is over, I will start to schedule for next year and start my running again. I always try to find motivating reading or stories to read now as it is getting colder and the temptation to sit on the couch is biggest now.

Fleet Feet's has a list of Turkey Day runs that cover the entire city. They also have their big sale to get ready for next year's line of shoes and gear. They also have some info on groups looking to run.

Runner's World has some fantastic reading covering some motivating runners. Their nutrition section is packed with good healthy meals that should keep you full and satisfied throughout the holidays.

Keep running!

marathon, fall runs and more

Hey everyone

I just wanted to let you know that I finished the Detroit Marathon. You will see that I am way down at the bottom with a finish time of 5:54:31. It was slow and steady with the temp in the 80's and the memory of Chicago a couple weeks ago was fresh in the head.

I want to thank my beautiful wife Maggie for putting up with me and the craptastic hotel I chose (procrastination once again reared its power on me). She met me at various points and handled the city of Detroit while waiting for me to finish. She took some pictures that are up on her myspace page. She also was able to finish a good book named Into the Wild.

Speaking of Detroit, it is in bad shape. There are abandoned buildings everywhere. But the optimist in me screams that it could be redeveloped with the awesome waterfront and a decent downtown.

I received lots of good luck wishes and want to say thanks. With work, and school, and soccer, there were a few times I thought about just not doing it. But those wishes kept me from quitting and I want to say thank you and to keep that in mind how far a good word can carry someone. For me it was to the finish line of my second marathon.

This Sunday I will be running the Gargoyle Gallop in Hyde Park (63rd and LSD). The money goes towards tutoring children. The website for the race is http://www.gargoylegallop.org/

Along with this race, Fleet Feet's website shows the race calendar with many more races for the year.

Nova is doing a documentary on training non-marathoners to run the Boston marathon. I went to a special screening last week at Northwestern and it looks like it will be a good show and that we can all learn something from it. It will be shown this coming Tuesday Oct 30 on WTTW Channel 11. Check listings for time.

As always, please pass on this info and blog to others that might be interested and if you want to be included/excluded from the dist list, let me know. Also, if you know of any other info I can post on the blog, let me know and keanemd@gmail.com .

Congratulations to all who attempted/finished the Chicago Marathon. For those that didn't finish and have the logistical ability, the Denver Marathon is offering free admission.

I have the Detroit marathon in ten days! Any advice?

cubs game on marathon day

Hey

There is a Cubs game on Chicago Marathon day. The time has not been determined but be rest assured the city traffic will be a mess.

I on the other hand have a 18 mile run in preparing for the Detroit Marathon. I would like to know from you what I should bring Bears wise to put on the lion at the center of Ford field where we finish the race.

Let me know.

running this past weekend

Hey

The nice long run this past weekend made me realize one of the main reason why I run in the first place; the energy that is shown by others while I am running giving me more energy to run!

I passed by the Avon Walk for Cancer walkers (they went by my house), kids playing sports, families taking bike rides and walks, and countless barbeques. All these things made me feel that running was a priveledge and to pass on the good energy by encouraging others.

I am going to be doing the Chicago Distance Classic. Is anyone else doing it? I'd like to hear from you!

So make sure you get outside this summer. You never know who your participation in activities will inspire to do the same.

Oh, the school social worker Jose Nebrida did the Montana and Wyoming marathons this weekend. He is amazing!

Ravenswood 5K results

Hey everyone

The race went really well. The weather was great. The support was great. We even had dignitaries (Congressman Emanual) cheering us on!

I finished in 28 minutes which is a little slow for me. I'll have to work on that.

Thanks to all the volunteers and the staff at Fleet Feet.

Ravenswood Run

Hey

The Ravenswood 5K is this Sunday April 29, and I hope all will join me. I love the run not just because it will be Sunday and I love running but also because the finish line is about 100 yards from where my father grew up and my grandmother lived until 1994.

Good luck to all the runners. Enjoy the hot weather.

Go Bulls!!!!

If you have anything you want posted but do not want to sign up with Google, email me at keanemd@gmail.com and I will post it for you.

Thanks

Thanks

introduction

Hey everyone

I just ran the Shamrock Shuffle. It was awesome. I look forward to checking out different races during the year. I will log my happy times and not so happy times. Good luck to all. I think my next race will be a 10K in a couple of weeks.
